The Dangers of Vioxx

Used to reduce pain, inflammation, and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, to manage pain in adults and to treat menstrual pain, Vioxx (rofecoxib) was supposed to be a new and improved version of previous similar painkillers. Vioxx manufacturers claimed that Vioxx was preferable to other medications because the new formula allegedly reduced the risk of stomach ulcers. What they failed to mention, however, was the increased risk of other severe side effects. Patients who are prescribed Vioxx are made aware of the benefits of this drug, but what they may not know is that their risk of heart attack quadruples over other pain medications.
